TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS
By Thomas E. Durst

Romans 5:3-5 (The Message)
"There's more to come: We continue to shout our praise even when we're hemmed in with troubles, because we know how troubles can develop passionate patience in us, and how that patience in turn forges the tempered steel of virtue, keeping us alert for whatever God will do next. In alert expectancy such as this, we're never left feeling shortchanged. Quite the contrary—we can't round up enough containers to hold everything God generously pours into our lives through the Holy Spirit!"
Trials and tribulations are just a part of this present life. All of us are "wounded" in the battle of life in some way and I feel fortunate when I see how many others are wounded so much more than I am. I thank God everyday for the blessings of a comfortable place to live, adequate food to eat, clothing, transportation and, above all, the richness of positive and loving relationships with many people. Oftentimes those who have a lot of material goods and money are lacking in caring friends and thus they are actually very poor in my opinion.
When things are going wonderfully in our lives it is SO easy to get caught up in a lot of "material hopes" and I'm not suggesting here that it is wrong to pursue various endeavors and have goals in life. However, the problem for most people is that they get caught up in the materialism and forget that sooner or later even the very best things of this earth that we can accumulate, the best goals achieved, will have their share of set-backs and disappointments. Everything on this present physical plane of life is transitory and temporary. The higher joys of Spirit should always be our primary focus and everything else secondary or we will end up being unfulfilled, always seeking and never finding, always wanting "more" of what we often can't even identify.
My prayer is that everyone of us may truly experience Heavenly fulfillment more fully each day and thus be preparing our hearts for that Edenic restoration time when all of the sorrows, trials, sicknesses, and disappointments of this present life will finally pass from our sight forever.
