A SANCTUARY OF HOLY QUIET
Within you is a sanctuary of holy quiet, a place where God dwells. His Spirit inspires your mind with knowledge, opens your eyes to a new vision, attunes your ears to hear the voice of wisdom, seals your lips against idle words, and hallows your body temple by the divine presence.
When you are inwardly silent before God, when your mind is cleared of personal desire, and waiting; when your heart is hushed to all except the love of God—then you are indeed experiencing His nearness.
Stillness before God is not a great mystery for just a select few. Rather, it is the resting place within your soul where, with a childlike trust, you let go of self and learn to lean on Him Who said, “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me; for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls” (Matthew 11:28-29).
In the silence you develop a consciousness of abiding quietness and peace. In that sacred place of quietness the unfailing love, power, and counsel of God’s gentle Spirit are instantly and continually available to you.
Let these simple but very powerful scriptures speak to your heart: Exodus 14:13; Psalm 37:7; 46:10; Isaiah 26:3; 30:15; 40:30-31; Zechariah 4:6; Matthew 6:5-8; Acts 17:28; Romans 8:26-27; Jude 1:20.
[I'm not sure who wrote the words above. I copied them from a piece of paper given to me many years ago and no source was given. They stand on their own merit. TD]
