QUIETNESS AND CONFIDENCE
Exodus 14:13-14 (New King James Version)
13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.”
Isaiah 30:15 (New King James Version)
15 For thus says the Lord GOD, the Holy One of Israel:
“ In returning and rest you shall be saved;
In quietness and confidence shall be your strength.”
But you would not.
The Israelites were literally backed up against the formidable Red Sea on one hand and the Egyptians who wanted to destroy them on the other. Humanly speaking there was no way out! The situation looked utterly hopeless. In the midst of this grave situation these inspired words were spoken by Moses:
“Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today." v. 13
"The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace." v. 14
Indeed, the power of God was manifested mightily, a way through the Red Sea was provided, and the Egyptians were destroyed because of their foolish defiance of God. Those who choose to defy God and come against His people will suffer dire consequences sooner or later. They are literally heaping punishment upon themselves.
The lesson that we need to learn more fully is that in "quietness and confidence" is our strength, not in all of our frantic schemes to change and correct every person or circumstance around us that seems to be negative and neither will anything change for the better by our continually dwelling on it. Yes, we do need to recognize that a certain problem exists but then we need confidence or faith in God to work through it. If we are supposed to do something the Holy Spirit will so direct. In a lot of cases simply turning it over to God and maintaining a close walk with Him is the best solution, although this goes against all of our human pride and planning. I believe with all of my heart that maintaining close fellowship with God is the supreme way to find answers to all of life's perplexing problems. Otherwise we're just buffeted about by our own human will power and that is not sufficient to overcome the attacks of the enemy.
"Quietness and confidence" go together. When we are willing to set aside all of our anxieties, fears, and human plans and wait quietly before God and listen to His voice we are accessing His power in us which is greater than all of the attacks outside of us.
1 John 4:4 (Amplified Bible)
Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier) than he who is in the world. (Italics Supplied)
Galatians 2:20 (New Living Translation)
My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. (Italics supplied)
