SILENCE AND TIME
"For you, a thousand years are as a passing day,
as brief as a few night hours."--Psalm 90:4 (NLT)
"But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.”--2 Peter 3:8 (ESV)
In the Kingdom of God, time as we know it in our present plane, doesn’t exist. Our times of Silence (meditation) have no time constraints of any kind whatsoever. Sometimes my Silence may be just a few seconds or minutes, especially when I’m in public places. At times I’m led to very extended times of deep Silence when the peace of God flows within my soul like waves. Other times I have very little feelings. It isn’t a matter of human effort or feelings but rather the grace of God being poured into hungry hearts. My writings often flow directly from a time of Silence.
Some years ago I was in downtown Spokane and had an overwhelming conviction that I needed to go to a specific hotel and pray which I did. I found a quiet corner and sat in Silence until the burden lifted. I have no idea of why I was supposed to do this but I obeyed and felt deep peace in doing so. In my inner being I felt there was a definite reason for this very clear guidance. Sometimes I will spend time in Silence in a mall, busy public thoroughfare or on the bus and sense a holy Presence going out from me, touching many people. The main thing is to be open to that still small Voice of the Spirit within and obey it. One thing I learned early in my spiritual journey is the importance of listening to the call to prayer. We grieve the Holy Spirit when we fail to listen (see Ephesians 4:30; 1 Thessalonians 5:19). The reason I often use the word “Silence” in capital letters instead of “meditation” is because people have many preconceived ideas of what meditation is about and perhaps the word Silence will better express what I’m trying to say. My goal is to share what comes to me in the most understandable way possible.
“Have no personal agenda. Pray aright. Seek only to Be with God for the sake of basking in His Presence - Spirit to Spirit.” ~Al Denninger
