SAVED FROM WRATH (CONSEQUENCES)
“But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Since, therefore, we have now been justified by his blood, much more shall we be saved by him from the wrath of God.”--Romans 5:8-9 (ESV)
“Much more, then, having been declared righteous now in his blood, we shall be saved through him from the wrath.”--Romans 5:9 Young's Literal Translation (YLT)
Nearly all of the English versions mistranslate “the wrath” to read “the wrath of God” as from the ESV quoted above. The YLT renders it correctly with simply “the wrath.” The words "of God" are NOT in the original languages. The difference is HUGE. Erroneous tradition would have us believe that God is angry at us and so Jesus had to step in and offer a blood sacrifice to appease His anger. NOT TRUE!! This is one of the most blatant lies ever told which has probably turned millions away from Christianity. The truth is that when we transgress the principles of love, the very foundation of the kingdom of God, we suffer THE WRATH, not God’s wrath, but THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUR ACTIONS. The mission of Jesus was to save us from living in bondage to our self-centeredness so that we can stop bringing suffering upon ourselves and others. “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!”--2 Corinthians 9:15 (NKJV)
[Note: I got these thoughts from reading A MORE CHRISTLIKE GOD by Brad Jersak. TD]
"To look at Jesus—especially on the Cross (1 John 4:8)—is to behold the clearest depiction of the God who is self-giving, radically forgiving, co-suffering love. I’ve come to believe that Jesus alone is perfect theology.”--- Brad Jersak, A More Christlike God
