ARE YOU WILLING TO FORGIVE? Forgiveness is NOT condoning the wrong that was done and neither is it forgetting what happened. Some folks have felt they haven’t forgiven if they have any memories of wrongs that were done. Not so! When Jesus prayed for forgiveness for those who were crucifying Him He knew full well what was happening and in the face of that ugliness chose to forgive. Forgiveness is a process which may take a long period of time with some folks. The pivotal issue is the DECISION that we are WILLING to forgive. I pray something like this, “Lord, I am willing to freely forgive _________ for ___________. Help me for in and of myself I am weak and unable to forgive in my own strength.” We may need to pray like that several times. A WILLINGNESS TO FORGIVE BEGINS THE PROCESS and frees us from the bitterness and bondage that comes when we refuse to forgive. Remember that through Christ all things are possible (see Matthew 19:26; Luke 1:37; Philippians 4:13).
“Forgiveness is to set a prisoner free, and to realize the prisoner was you.”--– Corrie ten Boom, Dutch Christian Holocaust Survivor.
