SHADOWS IN A CAMPFIRE By Thomas E. Durst
Psalm 90:12 (Amplified Bible)
12 So teach us to number our days, that we may get us a heart of wisdom. Psalm 39:4-7 (The Message) 4 "Tell me, what's going on, GOD? How long do I have to live? Give me the bad news! 5 You've kept me on pretty short rations; my life is string too short to be saved. 6 Oh! we're all puffs of air. Oh! we're all shadows in a campfire. Oh! we're just spit in the wind. We make our pile, and then we leave it. 7 "What am I doing in the meantime, Lord? Hoping, that's what I'm doing--hoping These verses speak clearly of the shortness of this present life which may be likened to a dream state. I often think of how many people I've known over the years who have passed on and I miss their presence. It appears to me to be very insane to focus primarily on the material gains and fleshly pursuits of this life as though they were our reality. All of the good things of this current life are for our enjoyment but with a sense of nonattachment to all of them for sooner or later they must all come to an end.
