ONE THING I HAVE DESIRED
I see times of Silence to be times of BEING WILLING to move beyond all of our thoughts and words into a deep level of communion with God. This is a deeper level of Silence than even “listening” which is the popular concept of Silence. However, the concept of “listening” may imply some degree of wanting some particular thing, blessing, etc. The Psalmist says it well: "One thing I have desired of the LORD, That will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the LORD All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the LORD, And to inquire in His temple."--Psalms 27:4 NKJV
We are speaking here of BEING in the very throne room of great I AM. There is no agenda of any kind except TO BE. That is very different from the kind of prayer that prevails in most spiritual circles, both Christian and otherwise.
"The world of men has forgotten the joys of silence, the peace of solitude, which is necessary, to some extent, for the fullness of human living. Man cannot be happy for long unless he is in contact with the springs of spiritual life which are hidden in the depths of his own soul. If man is exiled constantly from his own home, locked out of his spiritual solitude, he ceases to be a true person."--Thomas Merton
Let these simple but very powerful scriptures speak to your heart: Exodus 14:13; Psalm 37:7; 46:10; Isaiah 26:3; 30:15; 40:30-31; Zechariah 4:6; Matthew 6:5-8; Acts 17:28; Romans 8:26-27; Jude 1:20.
