LIKE A PASSING SHADOW

Job 14:1-2 New Living Translation (NLT)
“How frail is humanity!
How short is life, how full of trouble!
We blossom like a flower and then wither.
Like a passing shadow, we quickly disappear."
One of the mega-themes of the Bible is the brevity of this present mortal life. We may surround ourselves with all kinds of "stuff" and enjoy even the best this life has to offer but, alas, sooner or later it will all pass as a shadow. Troubles and disappointments of all kinds beset us on every hand. As I reflect upon my own personal and family history and that of so many I've known over the years I've often asked myself, "Did it have to turn out that way?" If we could go back in time and do a lot of things differently would we still have escaped the sorrows and trials that we've all been through? I've often fantasized about what it would be like to go back to when I was 18 and finishing High School [1955] and not make some of the big mistakes that I've made. Human suffering and death can be traced back to the Adam dream and I'm still pondering the implications of all of this but things become clearer continually (see Genesis 2-3). The good news is THERE IS HOPE IN GOD and fulfillment that satisfies our deepest heart longing is to be found nowhere else but in Him. The best religious and philosophical viewpoints that one could ever adopt in and of themselves will not bring fulfillment. At the most they can only be a means of helping us have a platform to help us reach our ultimate destination which is to which is to fully return to our spiritual being. From my earliest memories the sense of eternity was always in my consciousness and I've never been able to pursue material things with the same degree of involvement that most others seem to have. My calling all of these years has been to share this vision of eternity and to be a healing influence. Very little of the popular ways of thinking and living that I observe everyday makes any sense to me at all so I focus upon the universe of God which is the only thing that has reality for me.
