A SINGLE DAY LIKE A THOUSAND YEARS
8 Don’t let it escape your notice, dear friends, that with the Lord a single day is like a thousand years and a thousand years are like a single day.
What this verse says to me is that TIME HAS NO REALITY IN AND OF ITSELF but is a construct of mortal consciousness. If you were stranded on a desert island and had no time devices of any kind unless you developed some method of tracking time it would soon lose all importance. Overall my sense of attachment to time has diminished considerably over the past few years. One thing that I've noticed that brings a profound sense of peace and joy is that in my times of Silence I often lose any sense of time altogether and this happens spontaneously and effortlessly (see Zechariah 4:6). It is SO liberating to enter a realm of timelessness and along with it any ATTACHMENT to words and thoughts. This is indeed a foretaste of Heaven. The intrusive thoughts have progressively grown less since I started my set apart times of Silence some years ago. When they do come I don't struggle with them but just let them gently float by like the clouds in the sky and rejoice in a deep sense of the peace of God. This kind of peace creates a desire for communion with God above and beyond all other concerns of life. The glory of the Lord consumes ATTACHMENT to everything in the realm of matter and earthly pursuits. Years ago we used to sing "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" and the refrain ended with "and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace." May all of us grow daily in this experience.
Let these simple but very powerful scriptures speak to your heart: Exodus 14:13; Psalm 37:7; 46:10; Isaiah 26:3; 30:15; 40:30-31; Zechariah 4:6; Matthew 6:5-8; Acts 17:28; Romans 8:26-27; Jude 1:20.
I invite you to visit THE SONG OF THE HEART and read the very short posts which will encourage you to spend more time in waiting upon God in Silence, just to hear His voice:
