THE LIFE IS IN THE BLOOD
"For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life.”—Leviticus 17:11 NIV
The subject of Christ’s atonement, His sacrifice for the sins of the world as the Lamb of God, has been the topic of much deep study and sometimes debate among Bible students for centuries. This topic has many facets to it and deserves much consecrated study. One part of it I’ve thought of many times is that since the life is in the blood when Jesus shed His blood for us it was an outpouring of life and love which could never be equalled for He was indeed the Son of God. “. . . God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them.”—2 Corinthians 15:9 NLT. The reconciliation was man being reconciled to God. The love of God for His children reaches its supreme demonstration in the birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension and present ministry of Christ as our High Priest in the Heaven. I recognize that there are many other aspects of the atoning work of Christ but central is the unparalleled outpouring of divine love upon the human race. Without this outpouring of love the world would have self-destructed long ago. Sin when left to follow its course always self-destructs and can do no other. Sin is self-centeredness in its true essence and the end result of this self-centeredness is death or separation from the life of God (see Romans 6:23). I encourage everyone to prayerfully study this topic and receive that love of God which has been so freely bestowed upon each of us. If the love of God doesn’t impact our life all of our study and discussions will be in vain. Our response to the atoning work of Jesus Christ is to be one of gratitude and humility.
"Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift.” 2 Corinthians 9:15 KJV
