BREAKING DOWN RELIGIOUS BARRIERS
“One God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.”—Ephesians 4:6 NET Bible
In spite of the clarity of the above verse we find “religious warfare” everywhere. On facebook we have groups where people endlessly debate and sometimes vigorously attack one another over doctrinal minutiae. Not only do we have endless conflict over beliefs but sometimes even physical warfare around the world in which very religious people are killing those of differing religions. There must be a better way. In recent times I’ve written at great length about what I feel is that better way. Here is a summary of my essential propositions: (1) At our core we are spiritual beings, created in God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-28); (2) God is LOVE (1 John 4:8); (3) That being the case at the center of our inner being is love, however deeply it may be obscured by our human clutter; (4) As we look for what we have in common, God’s love, all barriers are broken down, including religious ones; (5) We need to cease warfare and conflict in ALL areas of human existence and focus on the one thing we DO have in common, the wondrous, inescapable love of God. Unless and until we do this the warfare will continue with all of the suffering at every level that it brings. I am called to be among those who are working for a better way and am willing to put aside the “childish things” of the past (1 Corinthians 13:11). These propositions may seem overly simplistic to you but are my honest convictions which are based on many years of prayer, study, and observations from having meaningful dialogue and fellowship with people of many religious backgrounds, both Christian and nonchristian.
I share more thoughts along this line in GOD IS--WE ARE which is on the link below:
